Vintage
2014 was a typically hot and dry Mudgee vintage, leading to big, bold, quintessentially Australian reds. Not dissimilar to the 2013 season, both quality and yields were good with a slow and steady ripening period.
Variety
Vintage Fortified Shiraz (we’re no longer allowed to call it Port) is the ultimate ageing style of wine. It’s not made commonly any more, but Chief Winemaker Tim Stevens is one of a few passionate advocates of the style, intent on securing its future and sharing it with new audiences. Huntington regularly wins the “Best Fortified” Trophy at the Mudgee Wine Show, and medals at Rutherglen (Australia’s spiritual home of fortified wine).
Winemaking
Fruit was picked from Block 18 in late March at 15 Bé. Fermented on skins for 5 days, fortified with brandy at 4 Bé which stopped the fermentation. Bottled early at 19.2%s.
