Huntington Estate Wine

2009 SEMILLON

The Huntington Estate Style is slightly riper than the Hunter Valley Style and therefore friendlier when young. But our wines age as and this vintage is typical of our house style. It is lean and fresh but still generous. There is a backbone of herbaceousness with subtle flavours of passionfruit, lychees and limes. It differs from the 2008 version in that it is slightly softer but still has great aging potential.

2009 THE FOUR SEASONS DRY WHITE

This is a delicious wine and at this price is extraordinary value for money. It is fresh and features zesty limes, kiwi fruit and rockmelon flavours. You can really taste the fruit on the palate and it is exceptionally well-balanced. To be enjoyed young and lightly chilled, it is our best Four Season White for some time. Drink 2009-11.

2009 BARREL FERMENTED CHARDONNAY-New Release

Despite all the news that Chardonnay has lost its title as the top white wine drunk in Australia, our version continues to sell well – hence the earlier-than-normal release. It comes from the ripe 2009 vintage which gave us extra flavours. The oak flavours are restrained somewhat compared to previous versions, thanks to the solid fruit which dominate the nose and palate. Compared to other, leaner chardonnays on the market ours is fuller with stronger flavours such as rockmelon and tropical fruits.

2009 UNWOODED CHARDONNAY-New Release

This is fuller than the 2008 version thanks to a warmer year. The wine is quite flavoursome with melon and peachy flavours with a creamy richness on the palate. I really like this as a drink-now wine and think it is probably our best vintage for some time. Serve it well-chilled and always keep a bottle in the fridge in case friends pop around.

2008 Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay -Methode Champenoise ( 6 Pack)

Our first ever sparkling wine and I am really proud of this effort. From a cool year, ideal for making this style, the wine is crisp and clean. The Chardonnay fruit provides citrus and green melon characters as well as the wines racy acid structure, while the Pinot Noir gives the palate an excellent lift. The minimum 12 months on lees provides some toasty and creamy characters.

2008 THE FOUR SEASONS DRY RED-New Release

The quality of this wine continues to be amazing, particularly given the price. It is a little spicier than previous vintages with an excellent tannic backbone framing the palate flavours of blackberries, white chocolate and a little pepper. Medium-full bodied, it is great everyday drinking.

2006 VINTAGE PORT

The last time a Port was made at Huntington Estate was 1993, by Bob’s daughter Susie as part of her university studies – and it’s still drinking beautifully today. Put this luscious 2006 away for a noteworthy distant anniversary or birthday. 19% ALC/VOL

2006 MERLOT

What a wonderful surprise this wine has turned out to be. Merlot has been released infrequently from Huntington Estate due to the variability of our Merlot block, but I am aiming to release it every year from this vintage onwards. The nose is still quite fresh and the wine has been made to age well for possibly another 10 years, getting softer with time. The new french oak lifts the pomegranate, raspberry and earthy flavours on the palate. As you can tell, I really like this wine.
“A robust earthy/savoury that has convincing varietal expression…will mature well.” James Halliday, 89/100

2006 CABERNET SAUVIGNON SHIRAZ- New Release

This is a rare blend for Huntington Estate, one that can only be done in more bountiful and ripe years. It combines the full body tannic thrust of Cabernet Sauvignon with shiraz softness. The wine is really fresh and has lovely raaspberry and licorice characterswith quite a sweet mid-palate. Full bodied and friendly. Drink this over the next 6 years. There are only 100 cases of this wine.

2005 TIM STEVENS SIGNATURE SHIRAZ (6 PACK)- New Release

This is a blend of fruit from the Abercorn and Rosby vineyards in Mudgee. Both have won local trophies for their red wines. Abercorn provides spice and fine tannins while Rosby gives a bright shiraz richness. The wine was barrel fermented in 100% new french and american barrels. The wine has an intense christmas cake and chocolate nose with sweet, almost jammy fruit on the palate blanced by some dried herbs. A greta big wine to drink now with steaks and red meat, or allow it to soften further over the next five years.

2005 CABERNET SAUVIGNON -New Release

This is an excellent example of Mudgee Cabernet. It shows a strong ruby color, while on the nose the excellent french oak is still little evident as spice and vanilla. The palate has great varietal character of red fruits and eucalypt, with strong acid and tannins which all Italian-like. This wine is rock-solid and will definitely age for some time, likely peaking a decade from its vintage.

2005 CABERNET SAUVIGNON MERLOT

This is from the excellent 2005 vintage which was marked by drought and ripe fruit. It is a little friendlier in its youth than some of its previous counterparts but I believe it will still age very well, for at least another 5 years. I believe this wine will be very popular thanks to its mulberry, plum, raspberry and savoury flavours. The Cabernet provides good body to the wine while Merlot softens it and fills in the mid-palate.

2005 SPECIAL RESERVE SHIRAZ

trademark Mudgee tannins. It is probably our ripest Shiraz release for some time, albeit still at low levels compared to others in Australia. The flavours are intense chocolate and ripe dark fruits. I strongly recommend cellaring this one.
”Attractive black fruit and vanillan oak aromas foreshadow a wine with excellent red and black fruit flavours as the driver of the palate, tannins and oak in balanced support.” James Halliday, 93/100

2005 SHIRAZ

A drought vintage, 2005 provided good concentration in our reds. The grapes were picked slightly riper than normal because the vines tended to stress at ripening time and the grapes began shrivelling. To avoid over-extraction the wine was pressed fairly quickly after ferment and fewer pressings were added. The wine was then matured in mostly older oak barrels for 2 years to condition the wine for a long journey in bottle.
This is a bit of brooding wine with smoky, bacon and mocha flavours holding back intense fruit in the background. It is smooth with nice tannin structures. The drought nature of the vintage shows through on the wine with excellent levels of fruit concentration. Further age will help the wine grow even more.

2005 CABERNET SAUVIGNON SPECIAL RESERVE

Vintage 2005 was marked by a very dry growing season, pushing all vines to their limits.
The fruit for this wine was a blend of our two finest Cabernet Blocks, 3 and 9, at opposite ends of the vineyard. The former block provides fine tannins and strong varietal characters of mint, while the latter gives the final blend backbone and strong fruit.
The grapes were picked in mid March, several weeks ahead of normal, at an average baume of 13.3. After ferment the wines were put into a mix of new (30%) and old oak barriques, mostly French.
It was bottled after two years in oak to ensure full integration of flavours and help condition the wine for ageing in bottles.
The wine shows slightly riper than the typical Huntington Estate Cabernet Sauvignon due to the nature of the vintage.
Like all of the best Huntington Estate wines it is medium-full bodied with a lot of varietal characters of blackcurrants and cassis showing through. It is a bit shy at first but opens up after a little time breathing. Almost two-thirds new oak was used but is barely perceptible. It shows fine raspberry and dusty characters. The palate takes me back to the early years of Huntington Estate with its nice recipe of fine tannins, a little eucalypt and solid fruit backbone all making for a long finish. I really like it.
In terms of ageing, this wine is probably one that shows a rare propensity to drink well both young and old. I would expect further softeness and bottle complexity until at least 2014 and possibly well beyond.

2004 BLOCK 3 CABERNET SAUVIGNON

The considerable success of Huntington Estate is largely based on its reputation for Cabernet Sauvignon. Our best wines have been Bordeaux-like with minty, cassis flavours, fine tannins and the ability to age a long time. The Block 3 Cabernet Sauvignon is a new and permanent addition to our line-up of wines and is borne of a desire to show-off our unique medium-full bodied Cabernet style.

2004 TIM STEVENS SIGNATURE CAB SHIRAZ MERLOT (6 PACK)- New Release

The three components for this wine come from, respectively Abercorn, Rosby and Cambridge Creek vineyards in Mudgee. Each are ideal to grow their varieties. Each cvomponent was specially selected , the blend occurring soon after vintage. The fruit for each was quite ripe, providing full black fruit characters. 100% new oak was used, mostly French. The wine has a dominant mid-palate structure and well reflects the excellence of these varieties in Mudgee. Excellent to drink now if you like big, chewy wines or allow it to age amd soften over the next 10 years.
